Events & Testing: Canine Good Citizen | Therapy Dogs International View
our Complete Event Calendar
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Testing: Started in 1989 the AKC Canine Good Citizen program continues to set the standard for defining a well-mannered dog. Many hotels, motels, landlords, and nursing homes require that dogs have CGC certification before coming on the grounds. Some insurance companies require dog owners to have their dogs CGC certified before granting them homeowner's insurance. Therapy Dog International includes the CGC test in its test for therapy dogs. The test is made up of ten exercises that any well-behaved dog should be able to pass with some training. Dogs must pass all ten exercises to receive Canine Good Citizen certification and may use CGC after their name such as Rosie CGC. The Canine Good Citizen test may only be administered by a registered AKC CGC evaluator. MOTC has several members who are registered evaluators and instructors. Muncie Obedience Training Club offers the Canine Good Citizen test regularly to the public. Pre-registration is required to be sure we have sufficient evaluators. There is a $10 fee to cover our costs of giving the test. Registration

Therapy Dogs International (TDI) Testing
The Therapy Dog International test is based on the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and also tests a dog on special skills required of therapy dogs such as ignoring dropped food, being around medical equipment and people with infirmities, being around children, and their willingness to say hello. Dogs must pass all exercises in the test in order to receive TDI certification and then complete other Therapy Dog International registration requirements. Dogs must be at least one year old to take the test. The Therapy Dog test may only be administered by a certified TDI evaluator. We are fortunate in having Deb Dolak, certified TDI evaluator, as a member of MOTC. Muncie Obedience Training Club regularly offers the Therapy Dog International test to the public. We require pre-registration in order to schedule sufficient time for testing. There is a $10 fee to cover costs of giving the test. MOTC is currently one of the few places in Indiana where you can get your dog tested for Therapy Dog work.
