A new puppy is cause for excitement and joy in the household, but too often the excitement and joy is shortlived as puppies need housebreaking, start teething, and play a bit too roughly with the children. Puppy Manners class guides new owners through the puppy rearing process to help their new charges become the good dogs they had in mind.

Puppy Manners covers housebreaking, chewing, nipping, digging, possessiveness, paying attention, and greeting people; as well as the basics of sit, down, come, and walking on leash. New owners learn what makes their puppies tick and how to best help them to be the good dogs they can be.

All MOTC classes are taught using positive training methods. After taking Puppy Manners you may register your puppy for Family Dog 1, even if the puppy is not yet 6 months old.

Puppies must at least have been started on shots. We strongly recommend but do not require, Bordatella innoculation. Registrations taken at the building will be immediately registered. Mail registrations will be processed that day and confirmation mailed out the next business day. Deadline for registering for any class is 7 days before the start date of the class, unless otherwise stated.  Paid enrollments are given precedent. |download sign-up form|

Dogs bring a special joy and excitement to our lives and everyone dreams of their dogs becoming Lassie or Benji. Often however, our dogs don't seem to live up to our expectations as they ignore our pleas to come, knock us down when we come in the door, and pull us down the street on walks. Family Dog  guides dog owners through the process of teaching their dogs to be the well-mannered companions they envisioned.

Family Dog  covers greeting people, walking on leash, nipping, and coming when called; as well as the basics of sit, down, stay, and paying attention. Owners learn what makes their dogs tick and how to help them be the good dogs they can be.

All MOTC classes are taught using positive training methods.

Shots must be current.

CGC Class

Canine Good Citizen Class

Course: 6 weeks, 1 hour sessions
Prerequisite: Family Dog or instructor permission
Class fee: $70 (rescue dogs: 10% discount with proof of adoption)

Pre-registration is required. Skills needed for this class: sit, down, come, beginning stay, loose leash walk, attention, accepts strangers and strange dogs

Is your dog a good citizen? Can your dog walk down the street without chasing cats and taking you with him? How are her manners around new people and strange dogs? Is he the vet and groomer’s best friend or their worst nightmare? Does she come when called, stay when told? Are people willing to hold your dog’s leash for you—more than once?

Every dog can and should be a Canine Good Citizen. In 1989 the American Kennel Club began the Canine Good Citizen program to encourage responsible dog ownership by purebred and mixed breed dog owners. Dogs that pass the Canine Good Citizen test given by an AKC evaluator are certified as Canine Good Citizens with the right to wear CGC at the end of their name.

Our six-week Canine Good Citizen class starts with dogs the very first week. You will learn to teach your dog the skills needed to pass the Canine Good Citizen Test given the sixth week of class.

The AKC Canine Good Citizen Test

1.Accepting a friendly stranger
2.Sitting politely for petting
3.Appearance and grooming
4.Out for a walk (walking on a loose leash)
5.Walking through a crowd
6.Sit and down on command/ Staying in place
