OBEDIENCE CLASSES

MOTC offers a variety of classes at various levels for those interested in competition or just having something fun to do with your dog. These classes are open to specific breeds as well as mixed breed dogs. While specialty classes are occasionally offered, generally the classes fall into the following categories.

Transitions Class
This class is the starting point for dogs to learn the basic positions needed for rally or obedience classes. This is a 4-week class designed to introduce dogs and handlers to the specifics of competition exercises. Dogs need to have completed a manners class (such as Family Dog) before taking the Transitions class.

Novice
The first regular titling class for AKC, this level works on on-and-off-leash heeling, the figure 8, the stand for eam, the recall, both finishes, and the long sit and down exercises.

Open
The intermediate class is all off-leash and works on more advanced retrieving and jumping.

Utility
The utility class challenges dogs and handlers in specialized retrieving and directed jumping as well as using hand signals rather than verbal commands for the heeling pattern.

Optional Titling Classes
Beginning Novice (an excellent bridge between Rally and formal obedience as most of it is on-leash), Graduate Novice, and Graduate Open.

Please email us if you have any questions about the classes. We look forward to seeing you!
