FAMILY DOGDogs 5 months and up 8 weeks, 1 hour sessions Class fee: $100 (non-member), $60 (member)
Family Dog assists owners in teaching their dog to be a well-behaved, well-adjusted companion who is a joy to live with and prepared for more advanced training if desired. Owners also receive instruction and coaching in training skills they can use throughout their dog’s life whether their dog will be a valued family member or a companion sport competitor. During the course, owners will be aided in teaching their dog to sit, lie down, come, stand, and stay on command as well as walk on a loose leash and briefly accept the owners’ absence. Owners also receive instruction in applying their dog’s skills to everyday situations: walking in a crowd, working with distractions, stay as the owner walks away and returns, greeting people even with other dogs, standing for a physical exam or grooming. Owners and dogs also learn an Emergency Recall to get dogs coming when it is an absolute necessity. Member volunteer instructors using positive training methods teach all MOTC classes. Sign up for class on Monday or Wednesday 6:30-7:30 p.m. at our training location. (See top of this page) To sign up you will need a class application (available at the training building), proof of current shots, and class fee payable by cash, check, or money order. ($35 fee on each returned check) Mail registrations are processed within 48 hours and confirmation will be emailed or mailed out the next business day. No registration is considered final until class fee is received. MOTC does not require but strongly recommends bordatella inoculation. We suggest signing up for class at least one week before the scheduled start date. If there are still openings the first night of class, we will accept enrollments that night 6:30-7:30 p.m. until the class fills.
