STARTING AGILITYWe start all dogs in our Foundation class so that our dogs and handlers have the basic skills needed to move through the other classes. After this class is completed, dogs will tke the Skills class, the Handling class, and then Pre-Novice. While we don’t “require” that our students plan to show, we teach the classes so that they are able to do so safely and confidently. Some agility clubs have a “show or don’t waste our time” attitude; this is not true for MOTC. However, we’ve found over the years that most of our students do get the competition bug and we certainly understand and encourage that! Agility is quite an addicting sport. That said, there are certain expectations that we have for your practicing outside of class. To succeed in your training, you should be prepared to make or purchase a couple of jumps and a set of weave poles. This doesn’t mean the $600 sets! Weave poles can be made inexpensively by using stick-in-the-ground electric fence posts (the plastic ones that sell for around $2.50 at Tractor Supply or Rural King). For jumps you can be as simple or fancy as you want. As well, we ask tht you buy/find/uproot from your garage a wide board to teach the end contact performance. All of this will be explained in the Foundation class, but please realize if you sign up for class that we will expect you to be training at home. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you and your dog will progress if you practice consistently. Please email us if you have any questions about the classes. We look forward to seeing you! Class fees: $100 (non-members), $60 (members)
